About Obsidian Global Sourcing

The Legacy of Obsidian: A Symbol of Precision and Innovation

Born from the heart of volcanoes, obsidian emerges as a glassy, jet-black rock forged in the fiery crucibles of Earth’s molten depths. This natural marvel, cooled swiftly from volcanic lava, boasts an unparalleled sharpness, making it one of the most prized materials for early humans.

Prized for its cutting edge and durability, obsidian was meticulously engineered into a variety of essential tools such as knives, arrowheads, and scrapers. These tools, in turn, played a pivotal role in the manufacture of other rudimentary equipment, enabling early man to hunt, craft, and build with unprecedented efficiency.

The extreme sharpness of obsidian knives allowed for precise cuts necessary in crafting hides into clothing and shelters, while obsidian scrapers were essential in processing animal hides and shaping wooden implements. Arrowheads made from this volcanic glass improved hunting capabilities, leading to a more stable food supply and fostering societal growth.

This cycle of tool creation and usage epitomises the essence of engineering and learning, showcasing the importance of innovation and adaptation in human progress.

Much like the prized properties and applications of obsidian, Obsidian Global Sourcing embodies precision, durability, and innovation. Our vision mirrors the transformative impact obsidian had on early human societies, aiming to forge strong connections between businesses and educational institutions.

Just as ancient tools crafted from obsidian enabled the creation of other vital instruments, our expertise facilitates the development of skilled workforces, fostering growth and excellence in the engineering and manufacturing industries. Through strategic partnerships and a commitment to advancing knowledge, Obsidian Global Sourcing stands as a key link between education and practical application, driving societal betterment and unlocking the full potential of both individuals and businesses.

From Alexandrite Recruitment to Obsidian Global Sourcing:

A 10-Year Journey of Growth and Transformation

I’m Morgan Holden, the founder of Obsidian Global Sourcing.

My journey into engineering and manufacturing recruitment began in 2016 when I co-founded Alexandrite Recruitment. I didn’t come from a recruitment background — my foundation was a long and successful career in sales. But it gave me the skills I needed to connect with people, to listen properly, and to deliver real solutions.

Engineering and manufacturing have always been close to my heart. Growing up, I was fascinated by programmes like Scrapheap Challenge, Tomorrow’s World, Robot Wars, How Do They Do It?, Fred Dibnah’s Building of Britain and many others. It was these early influences that inspired me to specialise in the sectors I now know and love.

Without any formal engineering training, I had a steep learning curve to climb. But my determination to learn, my tenacity, and my ability to build genuine relationships helped me to quickly establish myself as a trusted recruiter across East Anglia.

When COVID hit in 2020 and 2021, like so many others, I had to adapt. Recruitment almost disappeared overnight. To make ends meet, I spent those years cleaning holiday lets and chalets along the Norfolk and Suffolk coast — a humbling but valuable experience that made me even more determined to succeed.

In 2022, things began to open up and I was ready to push harder and grow further. I expanded the areas I covered to include London, Essex, Kent, the Midlands, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Northamptonshire, and Oxfordshire. Over the next few years, I built stronger and wider relationships with businesses across these regions, forming partnerships that continue to this day.

In 2023, I was invited to work alongside City College Norwich’s Engineering Department to help raise its profile and build closer ties with local industry. I organised Employer Link events, supported the Local Skills Improvement Plan (LSIP), and helped shape courses and curriculums to better match industry needs. It gave me a complete view of the engineer’s journey — from leaving school, to training, to joining the workforce — and it sparked a passion to do even more to support future generations of engineers.

Then, in 2024, I connected with Swarm REAGIT, an incredible independent training provider based in the heart of the Norwich. Their passion inspired me to start a new journey of my own: becoming an engineer myself. In 2024, I completed my City & Guilds Level 1 qualification in TIG Welding — fittingly, welding was the first skillset I ever recruited for back in 2016. I’m now committed to continuing my technical training, with plans to achieve qualifications in Mechanical Engineering, CAD, Project Management, Electrical Engineering, and Quality Management.

Obsidian Global Sourcing represents everything I’ve built over the last 10 years — but more importantly, it represents where I’m going.

I outgrew Alexandrite Recruitment, and I needed a new brand that could grow with me. What you see today is just the beginning. Obsidian Global Sourcing is designed to be more than just a recruitment business — it’s a reflection of my journey, my passion, and my commitment to the industries that shaped me.

Our reborn business now stands as a dedicated, expert technical recruitment agency, offering a comprehensive 360-degree recruitment and consulting service to Engineering & Manufacturing companies, professionals, and educational institutions not just in the UK, but globally.
